No Peace Without Struggle: A Yoga and Poetry mashupDecember 2nd | 6:30-9:00 PM
Love Hive Yoga | 1847 E Burnside St. Portland, OR "We suffer but we endure
And draw up gold and pearl From depths of character Formed so long in struggle." These are the words of Jose Maria Sison, a revolutionary Filipino leader who continues to fight for the liberation of his country. Trisha Fey and Drew Elizarde-Miller, organizers with the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines, had the honor of meeting Joma Sison, Julieta De Lima, Coni Ledesma, Luis Jalandoni and others who have paved the way for genuine social, economic, political change in the Philippines. As the Philippines undertakes another hit of U.S. influence at the hands of Trump and collaborator, Philippines president Duterte...it is now more than ever that we ask Americans to help hold the U.S. accountable for its actions. As a part of 10 Days in December for People's Rights in the Philippines join us to hear about personal visits with these revolutionary leaders and current members of the Peace Negotiating Panel of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines. Experience the stories of the founders of the Philippines liberation movement as Drew shares his poetry and Trisha leads you through a yoga experience. We will start off with poetry and our report back of our time in the Netherlands meeting the revolutionary leaders, break off getting to know other grassroots organizations in the PDX area, and then close out with a gentle yoga session. All funds will be going towards Moving the Mountains, a documentary portraying the lives of the founders of the Philippines liberation movement. Portland Fights back: Solidarity with People's strugglesSeptember 10th | 6-8pm
Build the untied front against imperialism and fascism! Struggle together for peoples' rights! No to US wars of aggression! Come be part of the conversation on how to strenghten our movements and build true solidarity with peoples' struggles here on Turtle Island and the world over! From August 5-7 2017, The International League of Peoples' Struggle - ILPS US (ILPS) and the International Women's Alliance (IWA) successfully held the international conference entitled “Solidarity and Fight Back: Building Resistance to US-Led War, Militarism and Neofascism” in Toronto, Canada. With participants from 121 organizations, networks and movements in over 14 countries, the Conference gathered more than 250 anti-war and social justice activists who oppose wars, militarism, repression and foreign intervention by the U.S. and other imperialist powers, and who assert or support the right of peoples to self-determination, justice, liberation and peace. This event will be part report-back from the delegates who attended from Portland and part open discussion on how to bring the mission of the conference to life here in our city. The objective of the evening will be to find the strongest points of unity amongst our movements with the goal of linking together and launching an ILPS chapter here in Portland in the coming months. If you profess the right of all peoples to self-determination, if you reject the warmongering and neo-fascism of the Trump regime, if you dream of a Portland united against imperialism and fascism, then a space is reserved for you at this event.
