No Peace Without Struggle: A Yoga and Poetry mashup

December 2nd | 6:30-9:00 PM
Love Hive Yoga | 1847 E Burnside St. Portland, OR

"We suffer but we endure
And draw up gold and pearl
From depths of character
Formed so long in struggle."

These are the words of Jose Maria Sison, a revolutionary Filipino leader who continues to fight for the liberation of his country.
Trisha Fey and Drew Elizarde-Miller, organizers with the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines, had the honor of meeting Joma Sison, Julieta De Lima, Coni Ledesma, Luis Jalandoni and others who have paved the way for genuine social, economic, political change in the Philippines.

As the Philippines undertakes another hit of U.S. influence at the hands of Trump and collaborator, Philippines president Duterte...it is now more than ever that we ask Americans to help hold the U.S. accountable for its actions.

As a part of 10 Days in December for People's Rights in the Philippines join us to hear about personal visits with these revolutionary leaders and current members of the Peace Negotiating Panel of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines. Experience the stories of the founders of the Philippines liberation movement as Drew shares his poetry and Trisha leads you through a yoga experience. We will start off with poetry and our report back of our time in the Netherlands meeting the revolutionary leaders, break off getting to know other grassroots organizations in the PDX area, and then close out with a gentle yoga session.

All funds will be going towards Moving the Mountains, a documentary portraying the lives of the founders of the Philippines liberation movement. Please view trailer here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/moving-the-mountains-the-philippine-revolution#/

 September 23rd | 9am-1pm
Columbia Park | 7701 N Chautauqua Blvd Portland, OR 97203

WALK / RUN WITH US!
Our race event will take place on Saturday, September 23rd, 2017 in beautiful Columbia Park in NE Portland. Join us for this fun family-friendly race that will end with an after-party in the park, featuring live music and food from Filipino vendors!

LAKAD FOR LUMAD
We are hosting the first annual LAKAD FOR LUMAD: a 5k walk/run to raise funds for the Lumad, an indigenous community of the Philippines. This race presents an opportunity to take your first steps into supporting the livelihood and education of the Lumad and create a pathway for your motions to transform into a continuous movement.

All proceeds from our race will go to the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns, an organization committed to protecting the rights and welfare of Filipinos by fighting for social, economic, and racial justice and equality. Funds will go towards building water systems and schools for the Lumad on the islands of Mindanao. These schools prioritize the empowerment of Lumad children and adults through systematic and appropriate literacy and education programs. Our project will support poor and marginalized communities in their efforts and struggles to protect their natural resources and live humanely in the face of environmental devastation and climate change impacts.

Portland Fights back: Solidarity with People's struggles

September 10th | 6-8pm

Build the untied front against imperialism and fascism!
Struggle together for peoples' rights!
No to US wars of aggression!
Come be part of the conversation on how to strenghten our movements and build true solidarity with peoples' struggles here on Turtle Island and the world over!

From August 5-7 2017, The International League of Peoples' Struggle - ILPS US (ILPS) and the International Women's Alliance (IWA) successfully held the international conference entitled “Solidarity and Fight Back: Building Resistance to US-Led War, Militarism and Neofascism” in Toronto, Canada. With participants from 121 organizations, networks and movements in over 14 countries, the Conference gathered more than 250 anti-war and social justice activists who oppose wars, militarism, repression and foreign intervention by the U.S. and other imperialist powers, and who assert or support the right of peoples to self-determination, justice, liberation and peace.

This event will be part report-back from the delegates who attended from Portland and part open discussion on how to bring the mission of the conference to life here in our city. The objective of the evening will be to find the strongest points of unity amongst our movements with the goal of linking together and launching an ILPS chapter here in Portland in the coming months. If you profess the right of all peoples to self-determination, if you reject the warmongering and neo-fascism of the Trump regime, if you dream of a Portland united against imperialism and fascism, then a space is reserved for you at this event.

NO TO U.S. AIRSTRIKES IN THE PHILIPPINES

Pray for the Philippines: No To Martial Law

August 12th | 6:30-8pm
Roosevelt Statue at SW Jefferson and SW Park

GABRIELA Portland demands that President Duterte stand up for those most vulnerable in the Philippines and stop U.S. intervention now! We call on him to reject all imperialist efforts and recommit to the peace talks that will provide a democratic, lasting path toward national sovereignty.

Given the heightening of U.S. intervention in the Philippines, we call on all peace loving people, allies of the Philippine movement, and fellow oppressed peoples of the world to join us in our indignation at the suggestion of U.S. airstrikes in the Philippines.
June 1st | 7-8pm
401 E 33rd St, Vancouver, WA

GABRIELA Portland is proud to be one of the sponsors for this vigil hosted by Pinoy Van Port Ministries. We call on all justice seeking and pro-people individuals and community organizations to join us on June 1st to expose and oppose the declaration of Martial Law in Mindanao. We recognize that this will only further increase the human rights violations, extra-judicial killings, disappearances, and political prisoners. Let us rise together to urge the Duterte administration to engage in diplomatic peace talks to address the roots of this armed conflict.
